Google +1 Video

How to Use Google +1[google1]

I have been seeing several questions on Google +1 and found some information that might be helpful.

First, here is Google’s video on “Google +1”

According to Google, +1 is shorthand for “this is pretty cool” or “you should check this out.” The +1 also allows visitors recommend your pages right in Google search results and help your site stand out.

More information from Google on +1

Webmasters who want to quickly get button code to run on their site should use the configurator.

Your use of the +1 button code is subject to the Google +1 Button Publisher Policies.

Here is the code Google gives you to add the +1
<!– Place this tag in your head or just before your close body tag –>
<script type=”text/javascript” src=”https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js”></script>
<!– Place this tag where you want the +1 button to render –>
<g:plusone></g:plusone>

I recommend that if you have WordPress you just add a plugin.  (one of the many reasons why I LOVE WordPress.)[google1]

You can see the +1 at the bottom of this post, next to the Facebook ‘like’ button.

Google +1 versus Facebook “Like”

Posted on 23 June 2011 by Linda Joseph

What is the difference between Google +1 and Facebook “Like”?

Google +1 is Google’s attempt to provide some sort of social credibility with websites.  Do a search in Google and you will now see a +1 box beside each of the natural search results.[google1]

You can add +1 to your pages to help your site stand out and it also allows others who like your content to recommend it on Google search.

Here is a screen shot of a Google search for ‘Internet Tutor’ – broad match:

Google Search Results Internet Tutor +1

MyInternetTutor.com Positions 3 & 4

As you can see, MyInternetTutor.com is #3 and #4 in the search results.  I just clicked on +1.  We’ll see how that affects the results.

If you go to page 2 in the search results, you will find one of my Facebook pages at in position #19 I believe.

To get the most accurate results, make sure you sign out of your Google account before doing the search.

Now let’s take a look at the results in Bing:

Bing Search Results Internet Tutor

MyInternetTutor.com #1!

It is interesting that Google picked up my Facebook Fan Page Internet Tutor and Bing who is in cahootz with Facebook didn’t rank it in the top 3 results.  But I am happy with position #1 in Bing.

I use several SEO techniques as well as social buzz to help with my site’s relevancy.  To learn more join Internet Tutor!   [google1]

What is an RSS Feed and What Do I Do With My RSS Feed

RSS Directories: What to do with my RSS Feed

I have post several times on RSS Feeds.  Simply put, RSS is an easy way of providing

updates about your website.  For more information, go to: What is RSS.

Once you have your RSS feed, you will want to submit it to RSS directories.

Why? Submitting to RSS directories simply gets your website content out more viewers.  I just found a good list at Jack Humphrey’s blog which I provided for you here.  (Don’t worry, I gave his blog a trackback which he likes as well as ping’d it.)

I would recommend that start with 20-30 submissions.  This is an easy task to outsource.
