How to Create a Facebook Page URL

Posted on 15 September 2011 by Linda Joseph

How to Create a Facebook Page URL

Creating a Facebook page URL or username for your Facebook page just got a lot simpler!

You used to first create a page and then need to get 25 ‘Likes’ before you could select a username.  That has all changed!

You can now setup a Facebook page and get a vanity URL (or username) without having to get the 25 ‘Likes’!  That makes it so much simpler for businesses trying to get their username for their business.

BUT

What about all those greedy Internet marketers who will try to horde as many names as they can?

Facebook has thought about that and has a few rules to circumvent a lot of hording…

  • You still can’t change the username once you choose one.  (That rule hasn’t changed Once you have 100 likes, you are stuck!)
  • You cannot transfer ownership of a username to another entity
  • You can’t violate trademark rights (so no getting facebook.com/trademark)
  • You can’t take a username and sit on it with the intention to sell it in the future…:o)
  • If you have an unauthorized usage of the name you may loose it

If appears that Facebook is covering its bases.  For those of you building a legitimate page for your business, good news for you!

How to Build Backlinks

Posted on 12 September 2011 by Linda Joseph

How to Build Backlinks

I have been building backlinks for my websites and for my clients.  You need a good backlink strategy to maximize the benefits.

I will be putting out report soon on building backlinks but I just read a good article on the growth of tumblr.  Here is an excerpt:

At the end of last year we estimated that
Wordpress.com was larger than Tumblr in terms
of unique visitors and number of bloggers.
However we noted that Tumblr had about twice
the number of page views per month.

On the page view front at least, Tumblr has
exploded in recent months. Quantcast puts it at
12 billion per month currently, compared to 1.4B
for WordPress.com. So Tumblr now gets 8.5 times
more page views per month than WordPress.com
(at least according to Quantcast, which in my
experience tends to be the most accurate public
web statistics tool).

I would recommend that you include both wordpress.com and tumblr in your backlink strategy. They both have high page rank and both get a lot of traffic.  Both of these will benefit you website.

Here is what you do:

  1. Setup an account at wordpress.com and tumblr.com.
  2. Name your site your keywords
  3. Provide some good content
  4. Link to your main website

In the upcoming report I will cover not only backlinks but having a linking strategy. You may have heard of a ‘linkwheel’.  I will cover my version and how I maximize the exposure for my websites.

How to Make Your Facebook Fan Pages SSL Secure

Facebook is going to require that all Facebook Fan Pagesreside SSL URLs. If you have

SSL Secure Facebook Fan Page

created Fan Pages for yourself or your clients, you need to fix this by October 1st or

visitors won’t be able to see your pages!

Peter Beattie wrote a very good article on how to setup SSL for you Fan Pages for Free!

Here is an excerpt:

The FREE way to make your

Fanpages SSL Secure:

While most people think they need to buy an SSL Certificate from their hosting provider, this isn’t always the case. There are

quite a few popular web hosting companies that offer something called “Shared SSL”, and the hosting account you have right now might already include it without you knowing.

Peter gives you step by step instructions on how to setup your SSL using share SSL on Hostgator.  If you have followed my blog, you know that I use Hostgator and recommend it to all my clients.  [NOTE: Use this Hostgator coupon code: myinternet  to get you first month hosting Free!]

If you are already familiar with SSL and are comfortable with CPanel then this should be easy to implement.  If you are not familiar, then I would hire someone at Fiverr.com to do this for you.

Remember, your Fan Pages hosted on your server will not be shown to visitors after October 1st unless they are on https urls!
