How to Buy a Domain Name

Posted on 24 September 2012 by Linda Joseph

Before You Buy a Domain Name You Need to Know What is a Good Domain Name!

Finding a good domain name is almost as hard as finding a business name!  I canGet great domains for under market value show you how to buy a domain name in just a few minutes. The tricky part is finding the best available domain name that conveys your business or brand.

About.com had a pretty good article on picking your domain name.  One of their suggestions is to look for your company name.  This is especially important if your company name is already well known.

If you are trying to ‘brand’ your business or your product or service, then search for you ‘brand.’

Here are a few guidelines I give my clients:

  • Memorable – you want it easy to remember
  • .com –  still the best extension for a business to get
  • Defining – if not a ‘branding’ term then it could provide clues to your business
  • No special characters, numbers, or  dashes

I have come across a site that I love for finding great domain names.  They have have great .com names and all you have to do is give them an offer.  They show the value of the domain but I have never paid that amount.

Here are just a few that caught my attention:

CustomWebsiteReport.com (Market value $510.00)
DallasPressRelease.com (Market value $1,250.00)
DesignerBeachBag.com (Market value $530.00)
EconomyFireplaces.com (Market value $1,100.00)
EpicMachines.com (Market value $800.00)
FloralPerfections.com (Market value $390.00)
HeadacheBeGone.com (Market value $335.00)
HikeVacations.com (Market value $750.00)
LiquidMultipleVitamins.com (Market value $925.00)
MainstreamPublications.com (Market value $850.00)

Don’t let the market value fool you. You won’t have to pay that! Check them out.

Here are 2 different registrars you can use. (There are hundreds!)

Moniker.com
GoDaddy.com

  1. Find the domain you want that is available.
  2. Purchase the domain
  3. Point the DNS to your hosting
NOTE: I always recommend hosting with a hosting provider like Bluehost or HostGator.  You can get CPanel hosting and much more.

Facebook Privacy – How to Keep Personal Profile Posts More Private

Facebook – How to Stay Privately Connected

Have you seen these posts recently on Facebook?

To all my FB friends, I am requesting you please do something for me: I want to stay PRIVATELY connected with you. However, with the recent changes in FB, the public can now see activities on any wall. This happens when our friends hit “like” or “comment”, automatically, their friends would see our posts too. Unfortunately, we cannot change this setting by ourselves because Facebook has configured it this way. So, I need your help. Only you can do this for me. PLEASE place your mouse over my name above (do not click), a window will appear, now move the mouse on “FRIENDS” (also without clicking), then down to “Settings”, click here and a list will appear. REMOVE the CHECK on “COMMENTS & LIKE” by clicking on it. By doing this, my activity amongst my friends and my family will no longer become public. Many thanks! Paste this on your wall so your contacts would follow suit too, that is, if you care about your privacy.

UPDATE

This appears to be a HOAX!!!

I will spend some time researching this topic and post more info

I’m sure you have.  As a marketer, I want my content to be seen by as many people as possible. As a mom and aunt and friend, I have people in my life who prefer to keep their posts from being public.

I respect that.

However, I have found this process to be a bit confusing so I creating a graphic showing you how to do this.  So feel free to share this with your family and friends who request a bit more privacy.
