WordPress 3.6 – Why I am not updating to Oscar

Posted on 02 August 2013 by Linda Joseph

WordPress just released a new update: WordPress 3.6.   It has a lot of cool new features!wordpress logo 3.6 oscar

  • New Theme: Twenty Thirteen
This theme is cool if you use a lot of media.  If I was a photographer, I would try out this theme.  It looks like it will adjust to any size device.
  • New HTML5 Video/Audio Player
This is a built in player to make embeds easy!
  • Tracking Revisions
Have more than one user?  See changes made by whom and when
  • Autosave Enhancements
Ever been editing a page when you see that someone else is also editing the page?  You each have your own autosave stream and you can take over editing if you need to.  (Watch the video.)

Why I won’t be updating client’s websites:  There is usually a security update 1-2 weeks after a new release.  Since my clients are secure now, I will wait for the next update.  I will update my blog and explore the changes in order to show my clients how to use the new release.

Here is a good article on the new WordPress 3.6 ‘Oscar’ release:

One of my favorite features:

  • New HTML5 Media Player:  You can now upload your video/audio files via the built in “Add Media” feature with support now for Spotify, Rdio, and SoundCloud, and a host of standards like YouTube, Flickr, Instagram, Hulu, Vimeo and more — see full list in the WordPress Codex. I did not see support for a couple of other favorites, like Bright Cove, but there is a plugin for that. Contact us if you need support for an item not on the list.  Forget about millions on iOS Apple tablets and phone not being able to see your old, deprecated Flash animations — go HTML5.

Let me know what you think?
